Longfurlong Meadows Community Nature Area
Please support our planning application to create Longfurlong Meadows Community Nature Area.
Longfurlong Greenfields Association are more than simply ‘objectors’. In fact, we have a positive vision to enhance the beautiful tract of Cotswold countryside between Tetbury and Highgrove, in ways that benefit people, landscape and wildlife. To enable this, we have submitted our own planning application for a ‘change of use’, to create a Community Nature Area.
Please support our planning application which is now live and has the application number 26/00905/FUL. It can be accessed via the planning portal here https://publicaccess.cotswold.gov.uk/online-applications/
We need as many of you as possible to submit comments in support of this application.
What we are presenting is something positive that complies not only with all the current planning policies regarding preserving the Cotswold National Landscape but also is going to be popular with residents of the whole town. This contrasts with Miller Homes plans to cover these wonderful meadows with 130 houses.
Obviously, we don’t own the land (yet…!) but it is perfectly legal to apply for planning on other people’s land so long as we notify them.
The Community Nature Area will be managed with the objective of enhancing biodiversity and landscape, balanced against providing public access, so that local people can derive maximum health and wellbeing benefits from accessing this beautiful green space.
We will conserve and enhance the natural heritage of the site and provide a place where plants and animals can thrive. We will enhance the landscape in ways that accord with the objectives and guidance of the Cotswold National Landscape. We will ensure that important heritage features such as dry stone walls and field barns are well maintained for future generations to enjoy.
This will be a landscape of species rich limestone meadows and parkland trees, interspersed with small woodlands, ponds, a small stream and a rich area of low-lying wetland. There will be accessible entrances and a network of mown paths for people to enjoy this wonderful green space. This is our vision, and that is why we require change of use planning permission as a first step in our journey to achieve it.
